Why doesn’t Curly’s wife have a name?

Curly’s wife doesn’t have a name because the author doesn’t want her to have one first off. Next maybe she doesn’t have one because it represents how man in the books time period thought of women that they aren’t anything and they don’t need a name. The man just thought that women don’t need a name and they belong to the man

Which one needs each other Lennie or George?

I think they both need each other but George needs Lennie the most even though he tells Lennie what to do and everything. Even though George may be the smart one he wouldn’t be able to reach his dream without Lennie. Lennie shows the boss and others that he works hard. The way he shows them he works hard is hat he does twice the work of two men. Without his long and hard work neither of them would be able to get paid. That’s I believe George needs Lennie the most.

What does Slim have to do with in the book “of Mice and Men”?

Slim is the man who keeps everyone calm and everything in check. When working and something goes wrong he makes sure it gets fixed and back on check. He also is the problem solver with everyone on the farm. When Lennie broke Curly’s hand he made Curly tell people that something else happen to keep Lennie out of trouble. Everyone has respect for him.
the comparing of Lennie and my little brother

The big teddy bear! This is what comes to mind when I think about Lennie and my little brother. They both have power hat cant be controlled. They have a lack of understanding of what’s going on around them. Age. These things make them so much a like but because of the time period looked at different.

First their power is great that can be used for good but cannot be controlled when upset. Lennie broke all of Curly bones in his hand when he could have just got him to stop hitting on him. Lennie even killed Curly’s wife because she would stop yelling. The same thing happens when my little brother get upset. He put a hole in my bedroom wall when he opened the door because he was upset that n he couldn’t get in the room. The two would help out the world so much if they were able to control their power. De o their time period they get treated different if they do something dealing with their power.

Next the two are very smart but have a lack of understanding with what’s going on around them. Lennie didn’t know what was going on with his time period and that people didn’t know how to accept people of his kind. He did not know why Curly would pick on him even though Candy told him and George that he didn’t like man that as bigger then him. With my little brother his understanding is growing as he grows up. Both of the two can remember things. Lennie can remember about the farm and my brother can remember almost every television show that comes on.

Age.! Neither of them act they age which is a problem a very big problem for Lennie who was the soul of a little kid. People don’t understand that he has a disability and he thinks different then everyone else. He can’t understand everything either when it happen but if given time he can but looking at his time period people wasn’t trying to do that with him. My brother was I much better because of his time period. Even though he has it much better then Lennie its still a fight for people like them because people don want to teach them or something on that type of level. My brother is starting to act his age some days and then other its back to being a little boy.

In conclusion Lennie and my little brother power, lack of understanding, and age makes them so much a like but seeing there time period and the people that is in them make life either hard for Lennie’s case. For my little brother they make it a lot easier for him.

civil war essay from B.D.M.M

Women are the back the bone of the world and they were the biggest reason why the civil war lasted as long as it did. The women acted as nurses to take care of the wounded soldiers and try to treat them so they can return to war to fight for the their sides. They also worked to make uniforms. With out all the uniforms that these women made the soldiers wouldn’t be able carry their guns, knifes, and any other things that they needed for battle. Working in factories is what they also did to take care of their families while their husband went off to war to fight for either the north or the south. Women during the civil war showed perseverance to say strong for their sides and families. Without the women neither side would have been able to last as long as they did.

The women lost fathers, husbands, and sons. They still stayed strong to support their families. Many women received letters from soldiers which are either writing about the war or how the miss their family, they sometimes even wrote the letters first.
I received your letter yesterday, and now proceed to answer it, as I have a little time on my hands this evening, and I do not know that I can spend it in a more profitable way. Certainly I can not spend it in a more agreeable way than in writing to one in whom my fondest hopes of happiness are centered it is just a year ago today Mary that I became a servant of Uncle Sam, I hardly thought then that I should have to be a Soldier So long as a year, but now, I don’t know, but my chance is good for a year or two more (James G. Barker & Justine Ahlstrom. Page 23).

This passage is important because it shows soldiers on their free time writing letters to their families. In this letter a soldier writing his wife and how he has been away for over a year. The war was into a year and it still was maybe another year or two. While the soldiers wife stays strong while her husband is over at war. She also toke the new role as the father figure by working to make sure her family was feed and clothed.

I sit down to write you a few lines as I have he chance of sending it by hand there was not much news of consequence in my trip through Kentucky the only that happened to me was that my shoes gave out and I had to travel about five hundred miles bare foot my feet were so sore that I could hardly walk one of them had thirteen blisters under the bottom it was a trying time with all the men we marched over twelve hundred miles you can hardly think how the poor men looked marching twenty five miles a day barefoot and hardly clothed enough to cover their nakedness I am not very good health I have had the diarrhea for more then two months and have yet the very worst kind I would like very much to go home to see you but the General will not allow me ((James G. Barker & Justine Ahlstrom. Page 27).

This shows how the soldiers had to walk without shoes, clothes, and how they miss their families. Soldiers had to walk twenty-five miles a day and over five hundred miles through Kentucky. With the entire walk that they did their shoes gave in to the point where they had to walk barefoot which lead to blisters. Some even didn’t have clothing so they became sick which lead to them not being able to fight or either death. The man that wrote this letter seems like he was a soldiers of the south because they didn’t have good clothing that lead to people becoming sick that made them not want to join the army. (Antietam D.V.D) The letters seem to be the same beside a few differences. They are the same because of the way they talk about the war, how they miss their loved ones, how long they have been gone and how they want to come home. The differences are little. The only difference in the letters is that in one letter one man write homes to his mother and the other one writes to his wife. The biggest difference is the man that writes to his mother talks about how they walk so much and their shoes give in and his health.
Wounded or sick soldiers were taking care of many women but mainly Clara Barton and her team. “Clara Barton's civil war work began in April 1861. After the Battle of Bull Run, she established an agency to obtain and distribute supplies. Clara Barton Founder of the American Red Cross to wounded soldiers. In July 1862, she obtained permission to travel behind the lines, eventually reaching some of the grimmest battlefields of the war and serving during the sieges of Petersburg and Richmond. Barton delivered aid to soldiers of both the North and South. (http://americancivilwar.com/women/cb.html)

The women did just hear about how bad the war was going they witnessed the fighting and killing. Other women acted as spies and nurses at the same time like Harriet Tubman. Tubman was a runway slave who help other slaves escape to the north using the Underground Railroad, a secret passage of safe house’s leading to the north. “Civil War she was a spy with for the federal forces in South Carolina as well as a nurse.” (http://americancivilwar.com/women/harriet_tubman.html). Soldiers lived in germ-ridden camps, engaged in heinous battle, languished in appalling prison camps, and died horribly, yet heroically. When you here of this you would think that only men would have endured this, but there was women soldiers that did the same. Both the Union and the confederate armies forbade the enrolment of women. So to get around this they disguised themselves as man and used men names. Mary Livermore was one of those brave women to do this with many others. Women soldiers were sometimes revealed that they weren’t women by accident or casualty. Mary Owens discovered to be a woman after she was wounded in battle. She was sent back to her home in Pennsylvania where she was welcomed by many people and the press.

Some women was not discovered to be women like Sarah Emma Edmonds Seelye and fought in the war for many years. These two women fought the whole Civil War. Sarah Edmonds a Canadian by birth, hided her identity as Franklin Thompson and enlisted as a private in the second Michigan Infantry in Detroit on May 25, 1861. While she was in the war she in the Union army and her duties was to be a regimental nurse and mail and dispatch carrier. In April 19,1863 she vanished because she caught malaria, and she thought that if she was hospitalization would reveal to the doctor and the army that she is indeed a women. The army’s didn’t want women in the army because they wouldn’t fit the traditional image of females. Females were supposed to stay home, clean the house, and raise the children. They were expected to do this while the man worked and if needed to go off to war and fight for their country. When the rumor of women wanting to fight in the war man was shocked about this. Women wanted show the men and the world that women are just as useful as everybody else.

These women did something so brave that some man did not even want to do; they were willing to give their life to their respected sides either the North or South. These brave women soldiers of the Civil War engaged in combat, were wounded and taken prisoner, and were killed in action. They went to war strictly by choice, knowing the risks involved. Their reason for doing so is unknown. (http://americancivilwar.com/women/) The only thing we know is these women are the bravest of their time and was before their time. Sarah Edmonds wrote in 1865 "I could only thank God that I was free and could go forward and work, and I was not obliged to stay at home and weep." Sarah Edmonds was proud of what she did and when the war was over she was able to go on and live her life happy. “The women soldiers of the Civil War were capable fighters. From a historical viewpoint, the women combatants of 1861 to 1865 were not just ahead of their time; they were ahead of our time.” This is from a historian on the Civil war. These women paid the women for women that want to be in the army. Women are still being stopped from going in direct combat, but they are able to enter the army.

These women that was from the Civil War era are the bravest women ever to go through what they went through for four years is amazing. Nether army would have been able to last as long as they did in the war with out the women behind their sides. The women were the backbone of that era. It’s hard to find women like the ones in the Civil War time period. They stayed strong the whole war and never turned their back on their respected sides which was either the North or the south.

UNIFORM

What is the point of uniform? “It doesn’t help me become smarter or feel smarter, the only thing it does is make me feel like a nerd.” From Leon Watson a tenth grade at Constitution High School. With these hard times parents are not able to buy two sets of clothes one for school and the other one for outside of school.

Uniform has been a big topic the last couple of years with the Philadelphia School District and parents. Constitution High School has came up with a uniform policy that helps out the students and their parents, but at the same the clothes that the students can wear is presentable for school.

Walking up the steps students are checked for uniform. One student comes in uniform everyday, and another doesn’t but they never get caught. The policy is very easy to follow all the students have to do is come in a collar shirt, and pants with out rips, or tears. If a young lady choose to wear to a skirts they must go pass their knees and no open toed shoes. Does the policy have problems or the student that doesn’t come in uniform just to slick! ?

The uniform policy is very fair and easy to follow. Every student is checked when the come up the steps everyday by three students and Ms. Morson. Students can get dress and go out after school because their uniform policy. Fashion is a big thing for teens today and with the policy one can come to school fashionable but still presentable for school. “Our uniform policy is one the easiest ones to follow.” Cornellis Talley, a tenth grader that attends Constitution High School.

There are always two sides to a story. Some believe that the policy is unfair. Some students because of the favoritism that is shown by the students who check to make sure students are following the policy and by Ms. Morson. If a student is on Ms. Morson’s good side then they can get away with not coming in uniform? “Yes they can if they are considered to be a good student and would never break the rules” Nassir Williams a student at Constitution.

What should students or the school do to get everyone on the same page? Every student that was interviewed said the uniform policy needs change. “Every Friday should be dress down day.” Pedro a ninth grade at Constitution tells this to me and other students seem to agree. What will the student body do make this happen and will the school listen to them because students break the rules? This seems to be the big question that’s on the table

My Life

My Life

Marcus Robert Young what did I tell about your actions? When are you going to stop acting your age and start acting mature? I always here this from my mom or family member when I go shopping spending all my money, going out with friends when I should be studying and when I make my mom at my about dumb things like not calling her. Many parents go through this with their children. I am going to show he reader how I am not yet in the mature stages of my life but not that far from it either. Working on myself will be the hardest part because I’m no ready to grow up.

Many love to shop for name brand clothes at high prices and go out with friends. Well I’m one of them. Because of these things I am not mature yet. Shopping at the, you walk in to Macy’s and soon as you turn your had these pair of joins catch your eyes. You run over thee and make sure that you size and try them on. After you make sure they fit, you go and pay for them not caring for the cost of them at all. This is the type of shopper I am, not caring that times are hard and having to get ready for I pay 100 to 200 dollars for some jeans. Our actions have a major effect us in the long run, and we don’t think about that until to late.

Party’s you can catch me at anyone that I think will be the party of the year. With me thinking that the party is going to be big I go to one almost every week knowing that I have a major test that will affect my grade if I don’t past. Instead of going to the party a mature person would stay in the house to study so they can pass the test with flying colors with out having to guess on the test and not hope they are correct. Guess in life will not get you to college and a successful job. In order to be mature person I need to know when I should go out with friends to a party and when I should stay in the house.

Next when I am being treated like a little boy, I act like one to make my and others mad at my. A sixteen year old should never act like that just to make someone mad, instead I should be trying to show them that I’m a young man and not a little boy. When I have to call my every two seconds it makes me mad, I call and lie to her about something small to get her off my back. Walking in the door my mom just starts talking to me about how the streets are crazy and then I start to feel sad like in the story when Lizabeth kills Miss Lotties marigolds written by Eugenia Collier “Marigolds”. Feeling how Lizabeth felt helped me get closer to adult hood.

Hopefully the reader can understand why I’m not in my adult hood yet. All hope is not lost because of my immaturity has helped me grow as a young man. I don’t pain to stop growing up. Class clown that guy was me. I use to want everyone like me but I didn’t even know who I was. Know I don’t care what they think about me. School was become the only thing that matter to me this year. Teacher are impressed with this new Marcus, they now enjoy me in class before they couldn’t stand me. Teachers have seen this change from me because I want to better my self in life and do not want to end up in jail or even worst six feet under. Also I want to be an example for the children that grew up with out father. Just because your father isn’t in life doesn’t mean you can’t make it in life and show him that you did it with out him.

The reader can now see why I am not yet mature but not far away from it either. My actions and the age I act have people pre-judge me and think that I’m just a little boy. With the people telling me to grow up and act my age has given me a new look on life. I should act the right way all the time if I want people to treat me like a young man and not a little boy. Before I thought people was just trying to pick on me when we sit down and talk. I would spin around in the chair, pop my gum, talk under my breath, but later I realized that these were all signs of immaturity. Changing the way I act has given people a new look on me and happy to work with me. These are the reasons why I’m not yet a young man, but so close to it.

N.H.D REFLECTION

This year with N.H.D was like no other project because when I work with people I am use to everyone putting out the same amount of work. With project the same amount of work was given but not done by the whole group. Two people in my group did most of the work. The other two missed a lot of days because of either they had to take care of something important which I understand but they did as much work as they could. The other person did not help really at all. Like they didn’t have a lot of work to do but they didn’t even complete that simple but easy work.

What I learned from this year is to work by myself like last year because last year I finished my work a week before it was due. Also I received a higher grade on my project by myself then working with partners. I am glad this happen in 10th grade and not the 12th because this would have hurt my grade by a lot. In the end this bad project ended up to help me out in the long run.

In conclusion this tear project at the end came together to be ok. Even if everyone didn’t do the same amount of work, our project turned out to be good and we wasn’t ashamed to put it on display. Overall I cant wait till next year so I can do N.H.D next year!

polo

http://www.fashionencyclopedia.com/Ki-Le/Lauren-Ralph.html

this website gave all the major moves ralph lauren did to make polo big. for example when he first opened polo his first store was in beverly hills

http://about.ralphlauren.com/history/history.asp?year=1969

this website is all ralph lauren history and it gave me a quote about polo and why he started it. he said the quote in 1968
“My customers were people who needed a change and didn’t know how to do it—people who were looking for something new, but didn’t like the transience of fashion.”
